Student Testimonials

I cannot emphasize enough how impressed I have been with Dr. Woodman's ability to design and facilitate a course that actually focuses on the learning process! Most courses just design for product. Dr. Woodman has successfully designed a course that relies on and integrates real critical thinking, analysis, application, paradigm shifts, introspection, change in behavior, and meaningful reflection regarding a process that naturally inspires the students to be invested in creating their own product that is meaningful and representative of their learning and experience. For the first time, I feel like I always WANTED to do more than I was doing because I really cared about all that was involved. - GW Student

This course was an excellent introduction to the Cuban educational system. The instructor did an excellent job in crafting the syllabus such that students would be able to gain a great deal out of the trip and fully immerse themselves in the Cuban culture.       -UMD Student

This class has been one of the best experiences I've had thus far in graduate school. We had excellent readings assigned prior to travel and great lectures on how to navigate international research, respect, implicit biases etc. In-country, there was immense support from the professor and the TAS,. I don't know how Taylor did it but he somehow knew what everyone was working on and would come up to us individually and say, 'you should speak with so and so, they'd be a great help to you.' Essentially, I did research abroad for the first time and i'm very proud of myself. Taylor is clearly knowledgeable & passionate about this work. - GW Student

Taylor was very honest, open, and reassuring throughout the entire study abroad program. The passion that radiates from him and the reasons why he facilitates the trip made the experience much more meaningful and fulfilling. - UMD Student

The opportunity to do fieldwork is really unparalleled and sets apart this course, and honestly, GW's program. I think Taylor is the perfect fit for teaching the course, given his expertise in the area, connections, and empathy with students. I don't know of many others in master's programs who have had the chance to conduct real qualitative research on the ground internationally. The first few weeks of class time are very intense but I thought offered good preparation for the visit. Taylor also offered me the best constructive feedback on academic writing I've received yet in this program.- GW Student
